The metaphor of a 'career ladder' is gone.

My first degree was in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria. I then did a Masters in Microelectronics and Telecommunications at the University of Liverpool. I started my career in IT support, my career in Technology has touched many areas – Consulting, Training and now Technical Sales. I’ve worked for a number of organisations including Dell, CA Technologies and F-Secure. I joined Google Cloud in 2017 as a Sales Engineer and became a manager in that team earlier this year.

Omer is a software engineer at Google UK. Before joining Google, Omer received his Bachelors and M.Sc. degrees from Middle East Technical University, Turkey. After that he pursued his interest in the applications of graph algorithms in the bioinformatics field and completed his Ph.D. studies in this field at Imperial College London. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the same field at University of California, Irvine. Since joining Google in October 2015, Omer has been working for the Play Developer Ecosystem team that defines the next generation app and game distribution on Google Play.

Alexandru has been a software engineer at Google ZĂ¼rich since 2017. He has been working on various projects ranging from improving reliability, efficiency and storage layout of authentication systems to enabling resource savings across the Google stack through caching. Prior to joining Google, Alexandru got his Masters degree at EPFL with a focus on distributed system computing.

Emily has been on the Talent Outreach team for four years, organising student programs and events across the EMEA region. Currently her focus is scalable outreach, including the Inside Look program and partnerships with external organisations; she aims to make Google more representative of its users, and create opportunities for every student in EMEA to connect with Google.

Suganya is a data scientist at GDS, she’s worked on parts of GOV.UK including related links, analytics, search, and feedback data. She previously worked in the private sector doing A/B testing and web analytics for e-commerce sites. Having started off with an internship where she learned to use Excel and query databases, she has gradually gotten into more technical and mathematical roles.

Kelvin studied Computer Science, but after graduating tried a short stint as a video games journalist before starting a career as a developer. Kelvin started off as a web developer for a business school, then moved into a more backend developer role for a university. After this he joined GDS as a developer Tech Leading and became a Senior Developer.

Abhijeet is a software engineer at Google, and has been on the Android Frameworks team for the past 3 years. The team’s work gets pushed to billions of devices. Before Google London, she was a software engineer in Microsoft, India, and she completed her education in India too.

Jessica Jones

Developer – Government Digital Service

Jessica Jones is a developer on Platform Health at the Government Digital Service, where she helps to ensure stability of the many applications and micro-services that make up GOV.UK. She worked on the Brexit team (when we exited the EU), and the Coronavirus team (during the first lockdown) so she is enjoying the relative calm of her current role. She became a software developer in 2013 following a coding bootcamp, prior to that she had a 20 year career in broadcast television specialising in science and engineering programmes.
